Learning Taekwondo teaches us many things that you might think have little to do with high achievement in martial arts, but without them it’s almost impossible to be successful at any long-term goal, recreational or career oriented.
One of the most important lessons is to build good habits that focus on you reaching the achievement you are aiming for.
The phrase ‘good habits’ sounds like a chore, boring and unenjoyable, but it doesn’t have to be.
Start easy. Create just 3 habits that are super-easy to keep. If a new habit interferes too much in daily life you’ll find an excuse to avoid it.
These are examples of good habits that can influence your Taekwondo training in a positive way. They are easily absorbed into any day of the week, you just need to be willing to start.
Spend only 1 minute each day on each habit for now. Instilling the habit is the important thing. You can extend the time later as you find yourself getting into the routine.
- Spend 1 minute practicing the 4 basic kicks correctly, focusing on the correct start point of each kick
- Find somewhere quiet to sit, close your eyes and focus, visualize yourself going through your current or a previous pattern
- Avoid one sugary snack or dessert from your diet this week.
Remember, you don’t have to enjoy every moment of the habit but do it anyway. It’s the stairway to success.
Success isn’t always about greatness. It’s about consistency. Consistent hard work leads to success. Greatness will come.
